Third Annual Beer Belly Drum-Off Attracts Only the Best

Contestants from around the world are descending on America’s fattest city – Chicago, IL. Chicago is this year’s site for the third annual Beer Belly Drum-off.
“As I’ve gotten older, almost 75 now, my drum has become more noticeable,” says Guy Pappa of Fattebort Hill, CA. “It sticks right out in front of me. It’s so far out now that I can’t even see my toes anymore.”
Beer Belly Drum-off contestants must perform their rehearsed solo as well as a challenging sight reading selection. The competitors earn point based on the success of their performance.
“It’s not as easy as you might think,” claims contest organizer – Big Belly Billy. “These guys and gals practice all year for this one event. Diet and lack of exercise are important components of a belly drummer’s training. The judges are tough too. If your Oblique sweep is off by just a little, they will let you know it!”
Fat guys play belly drums.“My grandchildren call me, the best belly drummer in the world.” says Pappa, who hopes to finish in the top ten at this year’s competition.
“Belly drums are great! No matter when or where, I am always able to drum on my belly.” says Pappa. “To get different tones, I just slap over my belly button to get a whomp rather than a slap! It drives my wife nuts when we’re watching TV.”
The addition of a belly drumline category promises to make this year’s competition an unforgettable one.
