SPECIAL REPORT – The World’s Best Drumline
Wayne County, WV – We recent attended the 7th annual Great American Drum-off. The event, which features the best drumlines from around the world, was a blast.
We did kind of feel out of place, though. Most of the judges and other sponsors were way too serious, talking about who had the nicest stick heights, posture, things like that. We, however, were not. We were warned a couple of times, once after throwing peanuts at performing bass drums.
The show was a great opportunity to view some really good drumlines, but more importantly, it was an excuse to eat greasy food and jump around in a giant inflatable castle.
While the judges were busy telling drumlines to play cleaner and tighter, we were busy sponsoring the Drumline Fun-Zone. Do you have any idea how hard it is to march and drum in a giant inflatable castle? We’re guessing it’s pretty hard, judging by all the drumlines that spent most of their Drumline Fun-Zone fun time on the floor of the giant inflatable castle.
So maybe three-legged drum races aren’t the safest idea, and maybe snare drums don’t float in the dunking booth like we thought – sorry about that, Chris – and maybe we won’t be invited to next year’s contest, but we had a great time.
