Advice, Crap Drums

Catagory:

Dear edrumline,

I am the youngest snare player in my line. We have 4 really nice new snares, and a bunch of old crappy drums. My center snare says I have to play one of the crap drums since I am the youngest member. Is he right, or do I have the right to play a new drum?

Chris

Dear Chris,

While we would like to consol you and make you happy, we are not that kind of site. Years ago there was this whiny little pipsqueak of a kid on my high school line.He was really annoying with the way he would always make up imaginary drumline rules, like “hey…drumline rule #139, never brush your teeth with a fork”.

You remind me of that kid.

Chris, you may not realize this, but there are kids in this world who have no drums. They are forced to play on old plastic buckets! You should consider yourself lucky to even have a drum.

Drumline isn’t all about equipment, anyway, its about attitude, honor, pride, discipline; all of which you can achieve and maintain without a shiny new drum. So, pick up that crap drum and play it with pride.
